XLF broke out of a 3-week consolidation on high volume with a confirmed Golden Cross and ADX at 32.5 — financials are reclaiming short-term leadership vs. SPY, pointing toward new 52-week highs. A bearish RSI/MACD divergence keeps the setup conditional rather than aggressive.
Catalysts to Watch
XLF gapped out of a tight 3-week base ($52.60–$54.70) on July 1 with volume 59% above the 20-day average, immediately followed by a push to new 52-week highs ($56.59 on July 7). The Golden Cross (50d SMA crossing above 200d SMA) was simultaneously confirmed, and the XLF/SPY ratio reclaimed its 50-day SMA for the first time in months.
