EEM printed a technical double top at its 52-week high ($67.94) on back-to-back heavy-volume distribution days, while the MACD crossed below its signal line and the EEM/SPY ratio rolled under its 50-day MA. A mean reversion toward the rising 50-day MA (~$61) is the base case while the long-term uptrend structure remains intact.
Catalysts to Watch
EEM rejected at its 52-week high of $67.94 on two consecutive sessions (May 8 and May 11) with the May 12 and May 15 selloffs registering 37.7M and 34.8M shares respectively — nearly double the ~20M average daily volume — forming a distribution double top. Simultaneously, the MACD histogram flipped negative and the EEM/SPY relative strength ratio slipped below its 50-day moving average.
